MDM Manipur

MDM Manipur is a Mid-day Meal Monitoring System of the Manipur State. The Manipur State has made the mid-day meal system to be digital by developing an online application. Now, by using the Mid-Day Meal Monitoring App, the govt can track all the activities related to the Mid-Meal. The activities that are tracked by the online app are related to the guidelines by stakeholders and the implementation of the scheme. 

The purpose of developing the Mid-Day Meal Online Application is to resolve the issues and queries related to the mid-day meal. The implementation process of MDM Manipur become faster with the use of online services. Now, the Manipur Govt can easily track the distribution of uncooked food items, insufficient meals per day, etc. 

About the Mid-Day Meal Scheme of Manipur

The govt of Manipur started the Mid-Day Meal in the state in the year 1995 in November. Initially, the MDM scheme is started in a few schools in the state. Then, the Supreme Court issued the directive on 20 April 2004 for the MDM Scheme and as per the directives of the Supreme Court, the Manipur government started the MDM Scheme on 14 November 2004 in all of the Primary Schools of Manipur whether they are govt schools or govt -aided schools. 

On 01 August 2008, the Manipur government started the MDM Scheme in all of the Upper Primary Classes. We have given the number of schools covered under the MDM schemes in the year 2015-16 below.

  • The MDM Scheme covers 2475 primary schools
  • The MDM Scheme covers 717  primary schools with upper primary classes
  • The MDM Scheme covers 177 upper primary without primary schools
  • The MDM Scheme covers a total of 3369 schools

Purpose of the MDM Scheme

The MDM Scheme is a national-level program that was started by keeping in mind several benefits.

  • The main purpose of MDM Scheme is to improve the nutrition value in the children by introducing the good food at school. 
  • The students who are from a disadvantaged background will be motivated to come to school as the fee is already free and now, they will get food also. 
  • During the summer vacation also, the MDM scheme should run in some areas where food availability is not there.
  • The basic aim of the MDM scheme is that students can not learn on an empty stomach. 
  • To inculcate the health, sanitation, and socialization values in the children from the school.
  • The student will get one-third of the daily nutrition value from a single meal at the school.

A brief History of Mid-Day Meal In India

In India, the govt has started the Mid-Day scheme in 1925 in Madras. At the end of 1980, Gujarat, Kerala Tamil Nadu, and the UT of Pondicherry started the MDM Scheme through their efforts. In 1990 and 1991, many states in India implemented the Mid-Day Meal scheme in their schools. The main attention to the MDM scheme was in 1995 and then, in 2001, the Supreme Court stated that it is the right of children to get food.

Weekly Menu Details

The meals under the MDM scheme are prepared and served by professional Cooks and the SMC will supervise the whole process of preparation to distribution. The common weekly menu of mid-day meals for all the schools is given below. 

  • Monday– Rice + Dal + Local Chutney
  • Tuesday– Rice + Mixed Vegetables + Local Chutney
  • Wednesday– Rice + (Dal+vegetable) + Local Chutney
  • Thursday– Rice + Dal +Local Chutney
  • Friday– Rice + Mixed Vegetable + Local Chutney
  • Saturday– Rice +(Dal+vegetable) + Local Chutney
  • Fruits, milk, and other items are also distributed under MDM

Automated Monitoring System for MDM

The State Govt is directed to have an automated monitoring system for the MDM schemes in all of the schemes. AMS will ensure the smooth flow the the scheme daily. It will include the following process. 

  • Mode of collection of data under AMS
  • Timely submission of information by schools
  • Details of Evaluation Studies
  • Instances of unhygienic food served
  • Misuse of resources
  • Provision of micro-nutrients, de-worming medicine, Iron and Folic acid
  • Distribution of spectacles to children
  • Recording of height, weight
  • Number of meetings held at various levels
  • Arrangements for official inspections
  • Details of the Contingency Plan 
  • Grievance Redressal Mechanism
  • Details regarding Awareness Generation
  • Enrolment of all school-children 
  • Status of availability of kitchen gardens
  • Details of payment of Food Security Allowances
